Blue Skies

Blue skies smiling at me,
Nothing but blue skies do I see.
Bluebirds singing a song,
Nothing but bluebirds all day long.

The sky was especially beautiful today, which was nice because I was feeling a little blue myself.

One of My Favorite Restaurants

Sid and I love La Hacienda Ranch, which we've affectionately nicknamed "La Ha." It's about 20 minutes away but we manage to eat there once a week. They have the best fajitas, and everyone we've ever taken there has shared our sentiment. Oh, and the brothers who own the place invented the frozen margarita machine.

Memorial Day

We had a fun Memorial Day! Breakfast at Lucy's, a little shopping, and the rest of the day/evening with our neighbors at the 1st Annual Memorial Day block party.

Bedroom Makeover!

I used my birthday money to makeover our master bedroom and believe me when I say it needed it....bad. I love the end result! By the way, the picture does not do the room justice. I threw the new bedspread on and haven't even put on the bedskirt yet. Speaking of my birthday, thanks for the comments, emails and Myspace posts with well wishes!

Happy Birthday To Me

Sid always gets me a cookie cake from Great American Cookie Co. This is my first depressing birthday because I am officially old. I'm 28, but I might as well be 88.

T-Ball Time

Beautiful family - Randy, Cindy, Makenzie and baby Beavis to be (Beavis was my name choice - I don't think they like it). Today was Makenzie's first T-ball game and she hit the ball farther than any other girl on both teams. We celebrated at Chilis and a shopping spree at Build A Bear, where she built an animal for the zillionth time.

Cows, cows, everywhere are cows

These are happy cows who are blessed to live on this happy ranch down the street from our house. I wish I'd had the opportunity to photograph their "grandpa" who died a few months ago. He was a monstrous old bull and all the other cows on the pasture trembled when he stumbled by. I think they're all secretly glad he's gone. I cheated and posted two pics today. Sue me.

Mr. Horsey

I love this horse. I've loved him ever since our first visit to our town five years ago. I feel awfully sorry for him, however, because horses are social animals and he doesn't have a fellow horse or even a cow to talk to. When I used to commute to the city every day, Mr. Horsey always made me smile no matter how stressed out I was feeling.

Chocolate is from the devil

I am still suffering the effects of my chocolate overdose. Here is an interesting and humorous excerpt I found on the web:

Post chocolate symptoms include anxiety, angry outbursts, migraine headaches, abdominal pain, joint pain, mental agitation and depression. Chocolate addiction is more socially acceptable than it is healthy. Some chocolate eaters become quite ill and quite obese.

Agreed!

Storm Cloud

Storm cloud over fields near our house.
Sunday Update: We learned this morning that these clouds produced deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma and Missouri. Neither of us have ever seen storm clouds like these. What the picture couldn't capture was that the clouds actually went on for miles and miles.

Make New Friends, But Keep the Old...

...one is silver and the other gold.

I met Joanna, my college roommate and friend of almost 20 years, for lunch today.

From sleepovers and crushes to husbands and babies, old friends truly are gold.

Love Actually Is All Around

A snapshot I captured tonight from the very end of Love Actually and best defined through words spoken at the beginning of the movie by beautiful Hugh Grant, Prime Minister of England in the film:

Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaking suspision love actually is all around.

Banana Nuttiness

Sid and I shared a slice of Banana Nut Loaf at Starbucks this morning. After listening to him rave about it all the way home, I had to prove to him that my recipe (from a family friend) is the best there is. (Like he's going to stop me - he gets Banana Nut Bread for dessert now, too!)

Project 365

First, thanks to the Carroll sisters for inspiring my own Project 365 page!

Bear has determined that a creature lurks in the gully behind our fence. He urged me to investigate today (by barking incessantly at the gully and at me, over and over again...a regular Lassie, my Bear Bear). What did I find? Nothing. Not a bunny, not a snake, not even a piece of trash. Bear was highly irritated that I did not believe him.
Update: The invisible "creature" Bear discovered turned out to be 4 baby rabbits. He killed one before Sid could save it but the other three are still hopping around and Bear is in time out for a few days until he hopefully loses interest (i.e. stuck on the leash)
