Tuesday Was a Beautiful Day for Food!

Mmmmm.....I knowGod gave us food for the nourishment of our bodies, fuel for our muscles, blah blah blah, but Amen! - it's also yuuuuummmmmmmy!

Sid worked from home today, so we had Starbucks for breakfast (only 160 calories in my latte) and a light sandwich at home for lunch. For dinner? I made cheesy chicken enchiladas and we literally inhaled them and licked the plate. Sooo delicious, and I don't even feel bad for braggin on myself. Oh my enchilada!

To top it off (after about 2 hours of recovery from dinner), we made coffee fraps - coffee and chocolate syrup blended with ice, a tiny little bit of Baileys, topped with whipped cream (fat free, of course) and a little drizzle of chocolate.
Would you believe it? I stayed within my calorie range for the day. I am a zig-zagger, though, meaning I have five lower calorie days with two high calorie days (about 200 calories higher than normal) randomly during the week. Supposedly it helps the body burn more fat, and so far, it's working so you certainly won't hear this gal complaining! I try to eat yummy things on those days so I never feel like I have to cheat. Since today was especially delicious, however, I couldn't shake the guilt. I don't know why, I just felt like I did something wrong, so I walked this morning and evening.

Oopsy!

Forgot to snap a photo today. Instead, I'm including another photo from my walk yesterday because, quite frankly, that's all I have!

This is the last leg of one of my favorite walks, where I turn around and head back home. It's also the road where I first "tested" the four wheel drive on my Jeep after a winter freeze.

From My Sunday Walk

There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country. A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo. Even a bicycle goes too fast.-

Live from Frisco it's Saturday Night

I love Saturday night. We headed to Frisco for a delicious dinner at Cheesecake Factory, followed by a movie - Tropic Thunder - to top off the night.

Elijah

Joanna, my friend for almost 20 years, had her first baby this week! He is absolutely, positively, without a shadow of a doubt, a beautiful gift from God. Don't you just want to pinch his cheeks?

Halloween Fun

I love having TV night with Sid during the holidays (yes "the holidays" start with Halloween in our household). I turn on all the candles, twinkling pumpkins, decorations etc and turn off all the lights. So cozy! I can't wait for all the scary movies to start popping up on TV!

Couldn't Pass This Gas

I giggled when I typed today's title because I really didn't mean to be crude. I was thinking to myself, "What rhymes with gas....pass!"

I have no idea why gas in Sherman was 30 cents cheaper than everywhere else, but this girl didn't complain.

Da na na na, na na na na (bum bum)

Can you name that tune? It's 90210!

I'm a little hooked on the new show, I must admit, but seriously? Seriously?? Is that what highshcool is like these days?

Man, I am really boring

I apologize for the boring pictures recently. I guess I'm feeling a bit uninspired (and I cheated and didn't really take this photo today). I will try harder from now on.

I bought this little arangement from Michael's and I love it!

Can you tell I love fall and Halloween?

Date Night

We had date night tonight - dinner at Spring Creek BBQ (because we are classy like that) and Burn After Reading at Angelika.

Again, I had to use my cell phone camera. Ugh.

My Super Ex Girlfriend

Sorry for the terrible photo quality for a few days. I can't find my photo card to my real camera so I'm using my awful cell phone camera.

Tonight we watched My Super Ex Girlfriend. A movie I laughed at when it came out because it looked terrible and I said I would never watch it.

Well, I loved it!

Fall is Officially Here....

...because I say so, solidified by my ceremonial hanging of the autumn wreath.

It is Finished. Or is It?

I had about 30 pieces remaining in my jigsaw puzzle (I say MY because Sid was no help and placed maybe 3 pieces - loser), so I finished up this morning while I drank my coffee.
As I slid the last piece in place and started to pat myself on the back for a job well done, I realized that a piece was missing. Gasp! I can't find it anywhere, so the puzzle will sit, incomplete, on the coffee table until it is located. I simply cannot put an incomplete puzzle back in the box. It's cheating. It's bad luck. It's breaks all puzzle rules.

Uh Oh.

Oopsy! I forgot to take a picture today, so I'll use words!

Beautiful weather, worked from home all day with the windows open, took Sid to dinner at La Ha after his long day at the office, bought tons of cute fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving decorations, sat outside and sipped our Starbucks, watched 90210, worked my jigsaw puzzle, slept like a rock.

Ahhhh Fall....

I am thrilled beyond words at the weather God has blessed us with this week, especially since it is statewide and our friends/family in the Houston area are loving it too. This morning, temps were still in the 50's mid morning. Fall, glorious fall.

Ike Schmike

Sid's Dad called last night because their generator committed suicide in this time of crisis. We met him halfway to deliver our generator this morning, and we listened to his account of the storm first person.

They live in Liberty County and decided not to evacuate since forecasters thought it would hit more torwards Port Lavaca. Once they realized Ike was headed straight for them, it was too late to leave. 146 was bumper to bumper traffic moving at a snail's pace, and having weathered many storms, they decided to stick it out.

Sid Sr. would never, in a million years, admit to being frightened, but I could tell they truly did fear for their lives. They lost a gigantic pine tree (I can't wrap my arms around the trunk) in front of the house, they have dozens of trees down, roof damage, the tin ripped off the shop, the house rocked all night, the door blew open, the sounds and sights were horrific and when the dust settled, they feel certain that a twister blew through with the way the trees are twisted and because there seems to be a path of destruction through the woods. He says they have never seen destruction so terrible, and they have weathered many hurricanes, including Carla when living in Port Lavaca. Thank goodness they are safe and sound.

We didn't encounter any traffic on the way down, but it really picked up by the time we headed home. Lots of family convoys, electrical trucks, trucks pulling industrial generators - all headed to the Houston area.

Rainy Day Bliss

It rained all afternoon and evening - nothing spectacular, but a drizzle that gave us at least an inch or two. Sid woke me up with breakfast in bed because he is the best husband in the world. Sorry ladies. We were lazy turkeys for the rest of the day, as planned, lounging in bed, watching tv, working a jigsaw puzzle, flipping through magazines...it was glorious.

Little Umi

This little advertisement came in the mail this week. Little Umi, the most lifelike baby monkey ever and she can be yours for only $150.
If you would even consider buying this creepy little creature, there is something twistedly wrong with you. I didn't even know there was a market for lifelike baby monkeys, but since the ad boasts "most lifelike baby monkey ever" I have to assume there has been some effort to produce baby monkeys in the past.
One word. WHY?

Piggy Bank - Leigh & Sid Style

We have coins in every nook and cranny of our home, so we decided to start a piggy bank. Sure, we could've gone out and bought a piece that would blend in with our decor, but the gallon jug makes a statement, don't you think? Like, maybe it's saying, "Why did you waste $1.50 buying me when you could've put that change in a REAL piggy bank." Or, "Hey, redneck! Can't you at least peel the label off?" Anywho, we put it near the door so we would remember to dump our coins in it. As of right now, I'd say we're pretty rich -there's at least 10 dollars worth of coins in there, so we'll be renting that Manhattan townhouse ANY day now.

Add another hound to the mix

Sid and I made a run to Frisco this evening. On our way back, I spotted a lose dog with no collar running in the middle of the highway. She was obviously very scared and very out of her element. We pulled over and rolled down the window to get her out of the street because she was seconds from being hit by a car. We could hear howling and crying - she wasn't hurt at all, she was justing showing us her bluetick coonhound ways, but it was pretty pitiful to see her running dangerously close to traffic howling her little head off. She took to us immediately and jumped in the Jeep with no hestitation. That's when we discovered that she is the sweetest dog ever. She kept nuzzling with us and loving on us, so we knew it was safe to take her home so we could start the search for her owners. We found her in town, and judging from her inexperience with traffic, we feel sure her home is somewhere very close to ours. No luck so far, but if she isn't claimed, we have no doubts we can find her a home, especially since she is a purebred. Dixie and Bear like her so far, but Bear is struggling a tad with jealousy. As I type, Ms. Bluetick is laying in bed beside me (no, we don't normally let dogs in the bed, but this girl is pretty clingy).

Dead Until Dark

The book HBO's True Blood is based on. I finished it tonight and give it two thumbs up! I have to wait until Friday to get the next book in the mail - everyone is sold out!

Bye Bye Cherokee

We took a little trip to scrap yard in South Dallas this morning to say goodbye to our friend, the Cherokee. Sid stripped the Jeep of all it's key parts, sold what he could, kept what he wanted, and then loaded the remaining junk on a trailer. After waiting in a line for almost two hours, we finally entered the metal yard and said our final farewells before watching it be crushed before our very eyes. Who knows - maybe one day your washing machine or new car will have bits and pieces of our friend.

We're stuffed to the max, but yuuuuummmmy!

Is it October?

The weather today was spectacular. I don't think it got out of the 70s, and it was cloudy and windy, with a cool dampness in the wind. It truly felt like late October and it got me all giddy for autumn! We turned off the ACs this evening and opened the windows because it's only 65 degrees out. Because I'm lazy and didn't take any photos today, I snapped a shot of our bedroom drapes blowing in the breeze.

Home Sweet Home

I picked up Dixie and Bear from the kennel today and they were so happy to be home. You can't see her in the picture, but Dixie was lying by my feet. They were trying to send us a message not to go anywhere without them again.

Mmmmm....Freebirds!

We drove through College Station again and chowed down on another old favorite, a Freebirds burrito. Yum! Chipolte, Qdoba - you'll never measure up to Freebirds.
