My brother-in-law, Brian, brought his kayak for the weekend, and Sid was a kayaking fool. Too bad there is no swimming in the lake. I really wanted to jump in and tump him out.

Root of a Latte Addiction
We spent the weekend with family in a cabin on a lake in the woods. On our way down, we stopped in Aggieland for lunch and coffee from our favorite coffee shop ever, Sweet Eugenes.
I first discovered lattes the summer before my junior year at A&M, cramming for a finance exam. It was a dark night, friends. It was late, I was tired, and like a lost puppy in a rain storm, I was alone and hopeless. A large Snickers latte from Sweet Eugene's changed my life that night. I went on to conquer that exam the next morning but have been addicted to lattes ever since.

Dixie, the Pouting Beagle
It was time to trim Dixie's nails. I thought I'd give Bear's a quick trim too, although I normally avoid the chore because he has black nails and it's hard to tell how far you can go without hurting him. Well, I went too far...and hurt him....on the very first nail...and it bled....a lot....and he had quite the time playing poor pitiful hound dog afterwards (and he got loads of hugs and kisses, and I'm happy to say he survived). Anywho, so Dixie is never thrilled when she sees the nail trimmers, but especially not after hearing her brother yelp and smelling his blood on the tissue. She ran from the room like her life depended on, but this is her after the nail trim. She's ignoring me as I call her name over and over so that we can kiss and make up.

What is art? Are we art? Is art art?
Don't know why the words of Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell just came to mind. You know the episode, where she's dating that super smart guy and she pretends to be super smart too? Classic.
I've stared at this picture frame on the wall, empty, for weeks. I finally printed a photograph for it a few days ago. It was taken on our favorite vacation (NYC - October 2007) from our favorite hotel (Affinia Dumont - perfection). We had a corner suite and from one set of windows, captured in this photograph, was the bustling city streets and the East River. From the other, we had the most beautiful view of the NYC skyline, so breathtaking it literally brought tears to my eyes (see pic below).
When that trip ended and our plane landed in Dallas, I knew I would have longings for New York City for the rest of my life. I knew that I HAD to live
there someday. And I had an overwhelming feeling that my life would never, ever be the same. I was right. All that being said, it seemed fitting to have those two photographs center stage on our bedroom wall. Just for the sake of balance, I've includued the photo in the other frame.

Coley Moley
Stacey and I even shopped together for the present a month ago, but then I couldn't go to his party, and I forgot to bring it everytime Stacey and I got together.
I don't feel too bad about it, because how cool to be 6 years old, to come home expecting the same ol' same ol' and have a present waiting for you? That rocks.

Small Town Saturday Night
Ever wondered how Sid and I spend our Saturday nights? Sure you have!
1. Dinner at Ernestos, the Mexican food joint in the next town
2. Starbucks - but of course!
3. Drive around town taking silly photos. Let me illustrate!

Here I am in the Starbucks drive-thru. Somehow I ended up looking like the Joker from Batman.
Here is Sid's interpretation of Zoolander's "Blue Steel." He couldn't keep from laughing, so I don't think he pulled it off.
Me again - attempting to look normal this time.
Here's Sid when prompted to "look gangsta."

Have You Seen Me?
Last Seen: Flying across the Jeep
Unfortunately, I got into a tad wee bit of mud yesterday (translation: the entire thing was coated with thick, disgusting sludge), so a full scale search of my Jeep was impossible. Since the bottom of the door comes to my hip, I couldn't even look under the seat without getting mud all over myself. So, I've been using my phone in it's imcomplete state.

Parking Angel

I amazingly made it to Plano on time - thank you Tollway extension - but there was the tiny little dilemma of finding a parking spot at noon in the busiest lunch spot in Plano. I pull into the parking lot and immediately saw the reverse lights of a car parked in the closest spot to the restaurant. As I pulled into the spot, I laughed outloud. It doesn't matter how bad the day is, I ALWAYS get a good parking spot. I chalk it up to my parking angel.

Hula Girl
Inspired by cutie patootie Baja racer, Alan Pflueger, Sid invited this hula girl to watch over his Jeep (Sidenote: Sid's admiration for Alan Pflueger has nothing to do with his cutie patootieness):

Dîner et un film

Sid and I had a yummy dinner at La Ha, followed by a movie at Angelika. It was a such a lovely night, with the cool refreshing breeze blowing by. We saw the French mystery drama, Tell No One, and it was fantastic. I loved that the dialogue was entirely in French (with subtitles, of course). Something about the beauty of the language against the darkness of the film just resonated with me.

Caution: Slow Drivers

In a 60 mph zone, this is me and my fellow drivers going 35 mph. Yes, 25 mph under the speed limit.
You'd think that since I deal with this on a regular basis, I wouldn't get so irritated.

Where is Dixie?
Rules don't apply to Dixie. She reigns in our house, in her mind at least. She is "forbidden" to enter the guest rooms and is not allowed on the beds. So where did I find her this morning? In the guest room, snuggled up, on the bed, under the pillows, covered in hangers. Nice.

Is this hell?

Today was hot. Painfully hot. Miserably Hot. Hot hot hot. The thermometer on the back porch, as you can see, read 108 degrees. And it's a covered porch. I was only outside for 5 minutes this afternoon and I have never felt anything like that heat in my entire life. Killer.
We walked this evening once the sun set and it was till 94 degrees. Normally, our endless breezes have a refreshing coolness, but not tonight. I was soaking wet with sweat. Maybe that means I burn more fat! If so, bring on the heat!!

Offroading
So, if you follow my other blog, you know I went to Barnes and Noble this morning to stand in line for wrist bands for tonight's Breaking Dawn Release party. Sid had the day off, so I asked him to come so we could get breakfast after. I wanted to get there early because I knew there would be a line, but we encountered a traffic jam (in Frisco terms, that means a ten minute delay but I have NO patience). So, I persuaded Sid to take a short cut. Uh huh. Do you know my history with short cuts? They are never shorter, but I take them anyway. It's who I am. We took the wrong county road, so what SHOULD have zipped over to the Tollway actually became a muddy dirt road leading to.....a dead end. Naturally. But, we had a heck of a time! His enormous truck and 37 inch tires made for an interesting expedition! And we still arrived with 15 minutes to spare. Nice.
